YWCA Glendale and Pasadena is delighted to hold our 25th annual Heart & Excellence Awards on International Women's Day. This year’s event will be shaped around YWCA’s core values: courage, compassion, and commitment. The event will also feature Areva Martin as its keynote speaker. A Harvard Law School graduate and the founder of Los Angeles-based civil rights firm Martin & Martin, LLP, Areva is one of our nation’s leading voices on legal, political, and women’s issues. She is a CNN legal analyst, and has appeared on World News Tonight, Good Morning America, and ABC News, among many others. Her fourth book, Awakening: Ladies, Leadership, and the Lies We’ve Been Told offers an empowering call to action to advance gender equity. Join us as we present the following honors:

COURAGE AWARD: Shannon Currie Holmes and Anahid Oshagan (Curators, Reckoning: Racism & Resistance in Glendale, ReflectSpace at Glendale Central Library).

COMPASSION AWARD: Carla Buigues (Real Estate Broker and Philanthropist, The Buigues Group).

COMMITMENT AWARD: Georgette Green (Partner, Hutchinson and Bloodgood LLP; Board member, Glendale Educational Foundation).

Keynote Speaker: Areva Martin, Civil Rights Attorney, Speaker, and Talk Show Host

This year’s Heart & Excellence Awards will take place virtually on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. PST. Annually, this event brings together distinguished guests, government officials, and leaders in our community who amplify YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women through their charitable and professional work. All proceeds directly benefit YWCA Glendale and Pasadena's Domestic Violence, Girls’ Empowerment, and Racial Justice programs.
